Annual private investment in nature tops US$14bn – a fivefold increase in 10 years
"The mix of investment types has diversified considerably over this period, reflecting natural capital’s emergence as an investment theme."
Private investment in nature has increased fivefold over the past decade, reaching more than US$14 billion in deployed capital in 2025 – a sign that institutional investors increasingly treat natural capital as a mainstream investment theme rather than a specialist sustainability allocation.
A report published this week by Ecosystem Marketplace and tracking nature finance has found that at least US$61.4 billion was deployed between 2016 and 2025, compared with US$2.8 billion in 2016. Researchers identified a further US$183.5 billion in planned investment, pointing to continued momentum despite regulatory uncertainty and macroeconomic volatility.
