Chemical firms accused of omitting hazardous substances in CSRD reports
“I find it a bit absurd that chemical companies can argue that their production and use of hazardous chemicals aren’t material to their environmental impact.”
European chemical companies may be claiming certain hazardous substances are ‘not material’ to avoid disclosing them in their CSRD reports, according to pollution watchdog ChemSec.
In the first third-party assessment of chemical sector disclosures under the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive to date, ChemSec analysed the reports of 13 companies and found that only three (Bayer, Lanxess and Merck) report hazardous substances as material to their business.
