EU urged to update cement standards to promote low-carbon solutions
“The cement transition is ready to move. Europe now needs to open the door.”
The EU needs to update its standards and procurement rules in order to allow existing low-carbon cement solutions to scale, according to a new report.
Solutions such as cement blending, clinker substitution, circular materials and resource efficiency could cut emissions by up to 40% today – but they remain locked out of the market by outdated EU standards, argues the European Environmental Bureau (EEB).
