Battery-electric vehicles have reached a record 25% market share in 2026 in the UK, but this is still far lower than the current 33% target.

Industry data from January to June 2026 shows that petrol and diesel cars together now make up less than half of new vehicle sales (43% and 4.6% respectively), compared to a total of 54% in 2025.
