A Paris court has ordered TotalEnergies to adopt a more ambitious climate transition plan in a case brought by climate activists to force the oil and gas industry to recognise its responsibility in the climate crisis.

TotalEnergies now has six months to present a new climate transition plan including Scope 3 emissions to the judge, who will render a final verdict on January 21, 2027 on whether the company is doing enough to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
