Germany’s emissions trajectory is taking it further from its 2030 climate target of 65% emissions reduction – potentially putting the government at risk of legal action, according to new projections.

The projections shared by the country’s Environment Minister this week suggest that Germany will struggle to meet its climate neutrality goal by 2045, as emissions declined only marginally in 2025 and new policies may weaken decarbonisation ambitions.
