Interface Head of Global Sustainability Strategy Liz Minné on giving up carbon offsets to focus on value chain carbon reductions

A little more than a year ago, flooring manufacturer Interface announced that it would stop using carbon offsets – until then a significant element in its sustainability strategy – to focus on carbon reduction initiatives. 

Liz Minné had been leading the firm’s sustainability strategy team for about two years when the announcement was made, and she had been gathering and analysing sustainability data at the firm since 2021. For the environmental engineering PhD, the decision was guided by both data and innovation. 

“Follow the data has always been my key message, because the data tells you where the impacts are. It tells you what your next fixes are, and that gives you the ability to drive change as fast as you can drive change within your organisation,” she tells CSO Futures.
