European wind firms challenge Trump-led project suspensions in court
Orsted and Equinor's respective offshore wind projects are both close to completion.
European energy firms Orsted and Equinor have brought cases to US courts to challenge the Trump administration’s recent orders to halt their offshore wind projects – both of which were scheduled to start producing energy this year.
Both companies received an order from the US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to stop work on their offshore wind projects on December 22, 2025, despite the fact that they had acquired all required licenses and were in advanced construction.
