The US added 43 GW of new solar capacity in 2025, making it the largest source of new power for the fifth year in a row despite political headwinds.

Solar and energy storage represented 79% of new power capacity installed last year, despite the Trump administration dismantling of incentives for renewable energy. In fact, two thirds of all solar capacity installed in 2025 was built in Republican states, including Texas, Indiana, Florida, Arizona, Ohio, Utah, and Arkansas – suggests that the business case for solar deployment trumps politics.
