UK secures record amount of clean energy in renewables auctions
New onshore wind and solar has been agreed at less than half cost of building and operating new gas power stations.
The UK has secured a record 14.7 GW of clean energy in two renewables auctions held between last month and today – enough to power 16 million homes.
The country aims to increase energy independence and lower power bills by betting on clean energy procurement, including solar, wind and tidal power. The auctions will support the development of 157 new solar projects, 28 onshore wind projects, four tidal projects and 12 offshore wind power projects.
