Virgin Media O2 commits £3 million to support local tech reuse networks across the UK

Around 460 million unused digital devices are sitting in UK homes and businesses, while 1.5 million people across the UK do not have access to a smartphone, tablet or laptop, according to a new study commissioned by Virgin Media O2. It is estimated that, of the unused devices, almost six in ten – equivalent to around 267 million phones, tablets and laptops – are still suitable for reuse or repair.  

The findings suggest the UK already has the technology needed to help people who can’t afford digital devices to get online. Yet, while consumers and businesses overwhelmingly say they would donate unwanted devices, many aren't aware of local schemes or infrastructure where they can do so.
