Water stress pushes power sector towards new cooling technologies
Electricity generation and AI computing are placing growing pressure on already limited water resources.
Rising water stress is becoming a strategic constraint for the global power sector, prompting utilities and data centre operators to adopt advanced cooling technologies, according to Wood MacKenzie.
In research published this week, the firm said 31% of global GDP is projected to face high water stress by 2050, up from 24% in 2010. India, Mexico, Egypt and Turkey are expected to account for more than half of that exposed economic output.
