Many parts of the world have moved beyond water stress and are already having to adapt to irreversible losses of water capital, scientists warn in a new UN report.
The analysis points to chronic groundwater depletion and overallocation, land and soil degradation, deforestation, pollution and global warming to declare the dawn of an era of “global water bankruptcy”.
