ADM doubles down on regenerative agriculture after 1mn tonne emissions reduction

Commodity trader ADM has entered a new regenerative agriculture partnership with PepsiCo and Mars after its existing programme helped it cut emissions by 1 million tonnes in 2024.
ADM reported the impact of its regenerative agriculture efforts this week: 5 million acres of farmland and 28,000 farmers are now enrolled in the programme globally, meaning the company has met its 2025 goal one year early.
This change in agricultural practices is yielding positive results, with 363,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent sequestered by regenerative agriculture projects, and 1 million tonnes of Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions reduced – more than triple the reduction achieved in 2023.
“Reaching our 2025 goal a year ahead of schedule is a milestone that reflects what’s possible when partners from farm to table work together. This report clarifies our objectives and demonstrates the tangible impact of our dedication to creating shared value for farmers, customers and consumers,” said Greg Morris, SVP and President, Ag Services & Oilseeds, ADM.
ADM partnership with PepsiCo and Mars
Based on these positive results, the commodity trader is doubling down on its regenerative agriculture efforts with a new initiative to support 24 Polish farmers in adopting these practices – developed in partnership with PepsiCo and Mars.
The programme covers 5,454 hectares in total, with Mars supporting regenerative wheat across 3,359 hectares for its pet care brands and PepsiCo focusing on sustainable rapeseed cultivation across 2,160 hectares.
Through the partnership, the companies are moving beyond single-crop sustainability efforts, encouraging crop rotation to strengthen soil health, improve water management, and enhance long-term agricultural resilience. As implementation partner, ADM will contribute both financial and technical resources to support the farmers.
Driving impact at scale requires collaboration
Archana Jagannathan, Chief Sustainability Officer at PepsiCo Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, said: “To drive meaningful impact at scale requires collaboration up and down the value chain. PepsiCo has been partnering with Polish farmers for more than 30 years, and this initiative with Mars, ADM, and local farmers takes an integrated, systems-level approach that embeds regenerative practices across different crop rotations and supply chains It also contributes to our global ambition to implement regenerative, restorative, or protective practices over 10 million acres of land by 2030, and has the potential to generate learnings that can be lifted and scaled beyond a single country or region to help ensure the long-term resilience of the global food system.”
PepsiCo recently reported a 2 million tonne drop in emissions for 2024, which was largely driven by progress in renewable energy and regenerative agriculture.
