Data centres already consume 6% of the US’ electricity – and sustainability leaders are growing concerned about the climate impacts of this rapidly expanding industry.

“This is nuts and against everything I stand for,” exclaimed Anna Lerner Nesbitt, CEO of the Climate Collective, this week on Linkedin. She was commenting on Anthropic’s deal to use xAI’s Colossus 1 supercomputer to power Claude, its generative AI assistant.
