Hourly matching tariffs quadrupled in 2025 as companies and standard-setters pushed for more credible renewable energy procurement.

The electricity market is moving towards more granularity to provide large businesses with credible information on their renewable energy procurement. Instead of energy attribute certificates (EACs) – which ascertain that a unit of renewable energy was generated anytime over a year to match customer use – companies are now moving towards hourly matching, strengthening the correlation between their clean energy claims and actual generation in the market.
