Biodiversity finance emerges as biggest obstacle to global nature goals: UN draft report
Biodiversity finance received the lowest overall implementation score of all 23 GBF targets assessed.
Finance has emerged as the weakest link in global efforts to halt biodiversity loss, according to a draft United Nations assessment that finds implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework is progressing too slowly to meet its 2030 targets.
The draft Global Report on Collective Progress in the Implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, prepared ahead of October's UN biodiversity summit (COP17) in Armenia, finds that biodiversity finance (Target 19) received the lowest overall implementation score of all 23 targets assessed, with a score of just 0.13. At the same time, the target on eliminating or reforming incentives harmful to biodiversity (Target 18) was the second weakest performer, scoring 0.17.
