Commercial real estate firm Colliers has appointed Ali Hoss as its new Canada Head of Sustainability and ESG, working under the leadership of Global Head of Sustainability Tonya Lagrasta.

Hoss was previously Chief Sustainability Officer at Triovest, another Canadian commercial real estate firm, since January 2023. Triovest was acquired by Colliers in May 2025, cementing Colliers’ position as Canada’s largest commercial real estate firm with more than 3,000 employees and US$15 billion in projects under development.

A recognised sustainability leader in Canada’s built environment sector, Hoss will now manage the firm’s sustainability strategy and execution in the country, working closely with Global Head of Sustainability Tonya Lagrasta, who took the role in May 2025 is also based in Toronto.

Colliers’ refreshed sustainability strategy

The company refreshed its materiality assessment and sustainability strategy this year, focusing on nine impact areas including decarbonisation, climate resilience and adaptation, responsible AI and cybersecurity.

In 2022, Colliers set science-based targets for Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions, which were approved by the SBTi in 2023: the firm is aiming for a 67.4% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and and 51.6% Scope 3 reduction by 2030, from a 2021 baseline.

As of 2024, it has achieved a 27.6% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions per square foot from its 2021 baseline and expanded its electric vehicle fleet to 170+ – a fivefold increase in two years.

Net zero carbon building goals

In 2023, Colliers also signed the World Green Building Council Net-Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment, pledging to occupy offices that are net-zero operationally, and achieve net zero embodied carbon in new and newly renovated offices, by 2030.

“Sustainability is a reflection of our values in action, and a pathway to long-term resilience,” said Lagrasta upon being named Global Head of Sustainability. “Built to Last [Colliers’ updated sustainability strategy] reflects where we are today – and more importantly, where we’re going. I’m energised by our people’s passion and proud to help lead this next chapter of impact.”
