Dispatchable solar power now ‘economically feasible’ thanks to battery cost drop
"The economics for batteries are unrecognisable."
The cost of utility-scale batteries has fallen dramatically in recent years, and dispatchable solar energy is now “economically feasible”, according to think tank Ember.
Storing electricity in large-scale batteries cost just US$65 per megawatt-hour (MWh) in October 2025 outside of China and the US – helped by a dramatic reduction in battery equipment and installation costs over the last two years.
