Energy-related emissions plateau as solar covers a quarter of demand growth
"Electricity consumption is growing much faster than overall energy demand."
Energy-related emissions increased by just 0.4% in 2025, as much of last year’s energy demand growth was met by solar and other zero-carbon sources.
In its latest Global Energy Review, the International Energy Agency (IEA) shows that global energy demand growth slowed to 1.3% in 2025 due to lower economic growth, less extreme temperatures and the rapid uptake of more efficient technologies.
