EU adopts first carbon removal certification methodologies
"This is a vital step toward achieving our climate neutrality targets and ensuring a sustainable future."
The European Commission has adopted a set of methodologies to certify carbon removals generated from direct air capture with carbon storage (DACCS), biogenic emissions with carbon storage (BioCCS) and biochar carbon removal (BCR).
The rules aim to set a clear framework for carbon removal activities, providing certainty for both project developers and buyers of carbon removal credits – reducing greenwashing risk and incentivising investment.
