Global GHG emissions hit new record in 2025
The persistent upward trend highlights the limits of current mitigation efforts and the impact of climate policy reversals in the US.
Global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions climbed to their highest level on record in 2025, according to newly released data from Climate TRACE, underscoring how far the world still is from curbing climate-warming pollution.
The detailed dataset shows that emissions grew by roughly 0.50% in 2025, adding more than 300 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent to the atmosphere and pushing total global emissions to approximately 60.63 billion tonnes CO2e – a fresh high 10 years after the signing of the Paris Agreement.
