Methane emissions remained at record high levels last year, despite the availability of ‘tried-and-tested’ abatement measures, according to the latest IEA Global Methane Tracker.

The annual tracker, published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) this week, shows that methane emissions from oil, gas and coal production totalled 124 million tonnes in 2025 – the same level as the previous year and close to historic records.
