Texas judge strikes down law penalising companies ‘boycotting’ fossil fuels
Judge Alan Albright declared the law unconstitutional and prohibited the state from implementing or enforcing it.
A judge in the US District Court For The Western District of Texas has ruled that a 2021 law restricting state investments in funds seen as “boycotting” fossil fuels is unconstitutional.
Senate Bill 13 (SB 13) included two provisions to penalise financial companies refusing to invest in fossil fuel firms: one prohibiting state investments in these funds, and another limiting state procurement from those “boycotting” fossil fuels.
