Dealing with disruption as a Chief Sustainability Officer

2026 has brought countless disruptions to the world of corporate sustainability: from policy backtracks and greenhushing to the once-in-a-generation technological revolution that is AI.

Chief Sustainability Officers are having to adapt to this new reality, often while their budgets and teams are being reduced.

Márcia Balisciano is the CSO of FTSE 15 information, analytics and events company RELX, advancing sustainability at the intersection of data, science and technology for the last 23 years.

She will be joining our July 9, 2026 CSO Futures Sustainability Leaders Community meeting to share her experience dealing with disruption over the years, and her advice for CSOs on how to make the most of recent trends.

July 9, 1:30pm BST (2:30pm CEST)

This event is reserved to CSO Futures Sustainability Leaders Community members only.

Speakers

Márcia Balisciano

Márcia Balisciano is proud to be the founding global head of corporate responsibility (CR) at RELX, engaging with colleagues across the business to increase the positive contribution the company makes to society while minimising any negative impact. RELX prioritises, for example, responsible artificial intelligence (AI) and continuously reviews the RELX Responsible AI Principles to set standards for the development and distribution of AI solutions for its customers.

She also works to limit the company's environmental impact. 100% of its energy comes from renewable sources or renewable energy certificates. Its carbon targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative and the firm charges an internal carbon price to its business (scaling to US$100 a ton by 2030) as an incentive for reductions. Among other uses of proceeds is an employee Green Fund to support environmental projects suggested by colleagues.

For its collective efforts RELX is recognised as a CR leader, placing in Sustainalytics top 1% of more than 15,000 global companies; holding a AAA MSCI sustainability rating for more than 10 consecutive years; with inclusion in the Dow Jones Best in Class Indices, S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook and the FT Climate Leaders.
