Building decarbonisation has slowed significantly since 2020, with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) warning that US$5.9 trillion of investment will be necessary by 2030 to get the sector back on track.

Buildings’ operational emissions increased by 1% to 9.9 gigatonnes of CO2 in 2024, according to a report published this week by UNEP and the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC).
