Xella Chief Sustainability and Communications Officer Cécile Fages on building the case for low-carbon construction
“We cannot do this at any cost.”
At European building materials manufacturer Xella, Chief Sustainability and Communications Officer Cécile Fages is part of a difficult dual mission to decarbonise construction while making it fit for a warmer world.
The built environment is responsible for roughly 40% of global energy-related emissions, making it one of the most important sectors in the climate transition. Xella produces walling materials used in residential and commercial construction. Its main products – autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) and calcium silicate units (CSU) – are lightweight blocks used to build internal and external walls, often complemented by other system components.
