Colombia has begun reducing the proportion of fossil fuels in its energy mix after peak generation in 2024 – meaning all OECD countries are now past their peak.

This is according to a new Ember report, which adds that 36 out of the 38 OECD countries saw fossil generation peak in 2019 or before, while Türkiye peaked in 2021. In addition, two member states – Iceland and Costa Rica – now operate zero-emission power systems, and another seven maintain fossil share below 10%.
